What Men Really Want for Valentine’s Day

Yesterday, Alecia wrote about what women really want for Valentine’s Day. I for one am thankful for the list! One of the things that Alecia does that is helpful to me that I’ve seen other’s comment on in their own marriages as well is when she finds something she really wants she will send me a quick email. What could be easier? I know exactly what she wants and can get it for her. No problem.
Men are inherently simpler. So this list is going to be much shorter. But while you may think that men only want one thing the truth is that there are a number of things you can do for us to show us that you love us:
Celebrate our Hobbies: Anyone who knows me knows how much I love golf. We’ve all got that thing that we just love doing in our free time. It brings our energy back, it relaxes us, it allows us to release stress and it fuels our male nature. So whatever your guy is into giving him something that shows that you care about that is one of the best things you can do for him. This is a great gift to think outside the box on too. For instance, its not golf season right now, so this would be a great time to get your man a gift certificate to an indoor driving range which is something he can use right NOW instead of waiting for the right season.
Candy: Piggybacking off of one of Alecia’s ideas right here. I loved the candybar poster board note that she and the kids gave me for Father’s Day. This is something that would also work for Valentine’s. Want to go a step further? Create or purchase a candy bouquet with all of your husband’s favorite candy’s attached. We don’t normally give guys flowers but you bet we’d for sure accept an arrangement of our favorite sweets.
Tech Gadgets: Men love to have the latest and greatest. It gives us something to brag about at the office. And it makes us feel like a superhero. You don’t know how to get there? Let me look it up for you on my new fancy GPS which is located inside my phone. Bam.
Tickets to the Big Game: We all have our favorites. Mine is golf, college football, NFL and the NBA. Guaranteed it would be one of your husband’s favorite all time gifts if you gave him a couple tickets to see his favorite team in person.
Lingerie: Guys being guys this one is a given. You don’t necessarily have to do anything fancy. You don’t have to buy anything racy. You could just come out wearing something that you already own that you don’t wear that often. It doesn’t matter – we’re just going to tear it off anyway. The point is that we love seeing you in sexy things. And we love what that leads to. And we especially love when you take initiative in planning a night that includes this or culminates in this.
Date Night: I may only be speaking for myself, but I think many men would enjoy it if their woman would take the initiative in this as well…planning the date. Or at least part of it. It’s a lot of pressure. And it’s typically the man who plans the date. But in marriage teamwork is everything. At the very least, it would spice up the evening if you surprised us with one extra event in the evening like stopping at an area wine club for a glass or taking us to one of our favorite spots (like the indoor driving range (oh, wait, did I say that already?).
